Sow instead....

I was planning to sow some of those seeds tonight and instead I am sitting on the couch with a headache. So instead, I am trying to organize my iphoto albums. Here are some pictures that I really like, enjoy!

Favorite tomato of the year. How could you not love it, I did, too much. I don't remember eating it, just looking at it for weeks....

Here is the pond after we were just finished. It was originally one small one, we put the small one up on top and made a rock river that flows into the bottom. All of the plants have grown a lot in the last year. I will post an update on it in the spring.

Little ones were just hanging out under the heat lamp, thats all.

Well hopefully tomorrow I will get those leeks, onions and celery started. So long for now!

Re-Coup, Re-run

This is what happens when it does not stop snowing in N.E. Ohio. The roof of the run will have to be redone! It was severely sagging last night and when I woke up this morning it had let loose. No ladies were injured in this horrible incident. 

So instead of leisurely sowing some seeds this afternoon while l watched snow fall. I had to try to get this under control. The roof is all down now except for a small section, good enough till we get a day above freezing so we can start a rebuild. 

The ladies want their space back!

You may notice that a lot of my choices are heirloom, I want to try and do some seed saving this year. A lot of my choices are organic also, although I didn't note them I suppose I could.
There are some seeds that I have left over from last year that I need to gather up also. I think I may try to winter sow some things from them. I will use those seeds instead in case things go bad so I don't waste my precious new stock!

I'm including some old garden pictures for fun (right now its under about two feet of snow!). Since these were taken I have put in a border around all of the beds with landscape timbers. I think I will let the grass grow in the paths now that there will be an edging to weed whip around. I spent a lot of time putting down cardboard and wood chips trying to smother it. I think I will just let nature takes its course with the grass from now on. Plus it did look nice having a green blanket pathway, and it also felt good on the feet. These are from the first year of my garden.

After a very thoughtful selection process I have narrowed down (ha!) my choices and have collected all of the seeds that I will sow this year. Only two are backordered, an amish paste tomato and viroflay spinach. I really wanted those particular varieties so I will wait for them! 

This year I read up on what I wanted in the catalogs like always, but took to the stores first. With list in hand I was pleasantly surprised that I found some of the exact things I wanted for a lot less than ordering prices. 

I only ordered from two catalogs this year to keep the shipping costs down and to make it easier for me to decide what to get. I get overwhelmed easily by all the choices so this worked out best for me.

I ordered online from Territorial Seed and Seeds of Change. I bought at Menards (40% off Burpee packs), Home Depot and Lowes. I will post my seed list soon, off to watch Heathers.
