We lost one of the ladies today.

I dont know what happened but one of my rhode island reds died. She fell off the roost is all I can tell. I am very sad, I hope she didn't suffer. I feel like they are part of the family and I wish there was something I could have done.

  1. Sorry you lost one. Last year I lost Notch one morning when I was opening coops. When I get at the bantam coop next to the standards house the big girls start gettin down in anticipation. When I opened the big girls' door Notch was under the roosts doing the death flop. She was already gone and it was just her body flopping.

Looks like One of the other girls had pushed her off and she broke her neck. It was fast, so I know she didn't suffer.

  2. Sorry to hear about your loss, Ohio Veggies. I'm sure she didn't suffer one bit, though, like you, her little chicken friends will likely miss her a lot. :(

Glad I finally figured out how to look at and post to your blog...yours is the first blog I am following! and so nice to see those seedlings coming up!! Just can't wait for this winter to be over so the spring flowers can start poking up.

    Happy Planting!
